Welcome, Joy (Slezak), to Black Fable 5!
You lack any special ability or unique trait. However, at the start of each cycle, you may randomly be assigned a role that's unique to your faction, and essential to winning the game. You'll be notified here if that happens, as well as given details on the temporary role.
Additionally, your Sin is Gloom. You win with the Employees.
This thread is where you'll submit any of your actions, as well as where you'll be notified if you live or die each Dusk.
Here, you can share information about your character and their history in two segments, which may be made public during the events of the game.

"Gl-Gloom? B-But I'm always so bright and cheerful and eager to help! I swear! There's nothing wrong . . . with me . . . right? Ahaha."
In all seriousness, this should be quite interesting. What did you mean by I can give information and history about my character "in two segments" though?
Anyway, to start off, here's the "elevator pitch" for my character:
Josephine Taylor (25F) is nearing the end of her first year working as a licensed counselor in the Welfare department at Lunares. When she isn't busy handling Abnormalities utilizing her affinity for Prudence and Justice, she takes time to tend to employees who've been having a rough day, or a rough week, or a rough lifetime (which honestly, most people in this society can be said to experience all of those pretty often.) She's normally upbeat and warm, but she can tailor her temperament to the needs of her current client(s).
If anything doesn't gel with the narrative, please let me know. Everything is still malleable.

So during the game's Midnight Phases, players will be able to use the energy they've earned during the game earlier to essentially purchase Employee Files. One purchase will reveal that specific player's Sin, and a following one can be made to reveal if they possess a role or not.
What I mean by two segments is basically info/flavour text about your character that'd be revealed in each purchase. Like when they read your file, it can display personal data about Josephine as well as some of her history, and the next purchase can reveal more of her history. Basically a way for your backstory to be made public!
It's entirely optional tough. I apologize for not being super clear!
I like the sound of her by the way! Nothing wrong with being a bit of a therapist.

Ah, I see, I see. Yeah, I'll come up with a Lv1 and Lv2 file, and it's a good thing I have a couple weeks to think about it.
And I think of therapy as a bit like playing the violin. Anyone can pick up and try to play a violin, but it'll probably sound pretty bad and will do more harm than good. However, a skilled player can do amazing things and spread joy to anyone who hears the music. Unfortunately the analogy breaks down a bit because each client needs their own subtle approach to have their mental state improved. Okay, I'm done being a therapy nerd for now.

Loving this. It's a very nice thing to see someone like Josephine here in L-corp!

Eee! That's such a compliment! Thank you. Alright, that's it. Josephine's prominent trait is now a self-insert of my therapy nerdiness. Maybe. It sounds good, anyway.

Heeeey Mr. GM! Am I correct in assuming there's no bar on the premises, and that alcoholic drinks in general aren't allowed? I ask because I had inspiration to have Josephine possess a hidden passion for mixology. If not, is there at least something more substantial than a coffee machine; some way to make different kinds of coffee drinks? I feel inspired by things like Coffee Talk and VA-11 Hall-A and I want to make my lovely Josephine a barista type somehow.

Drinking is probably something you can sneakily get away with. Or not so sneakily.
It's probably on the surface not allowed by company policy but everything is frankly quite terrible and only those with the biggest sticks up their butts would crack down on it. So I'd say you're all good!!
Coffee Talk and Valhalla are fantastic games btw I love those.

Awesome! Now as for how she acquires said alcohol . . . Am I to assume it's actually relatively easy? Like, I was thinking if she needed to go under-the-radar with it, she'd probably have made a connection in the Exterior team somehow to have alcohol smuggled in along with supplies she needs for her counseling sessions (if that is even allowed. I don't know if employees are even allowed to make requests like that.) Or, maybe someone else has already done the job of getting the alcohol onto the station and she merely buys some off of them. Or maybe there's like, a cantina or cafeteria with staff whom she can ask for ingredients.
So many ideas! And all just for flavor, of course.

Yeah all of that sounds like it'd work well!
I imagine there's lots of drinkers who use it to just cope with the situation so it wouldn't be too hard for her to get her hands on something. Whatever suits you best can work with the game!

Oh hey! Do you think L-Corp would be so tight-lipped as to keep secret whether or not an Abnormality caused the distress of an employee in crisis that Josephine is tasked with assisting? Or would it be the other extreme, where they wouldn't respect the privacy of the employee at all and give a detailed record of every interaction with an Abnormality? Or somewhere in between?
|
|
|
Post by Kachu on May 28, 2023 2:16:40 GMT
Probably in between? It might depend on what happened. If what caused the stress was an effect of the Abnormality something like that would be documented so future employees could work more efficiently, yeah?
But if the employee just sorta had too much going on and they couldn’t handle it then it could be more hush hush

"Hey! W-Why are you showing me that!? P-Please . . . Please don't let anyone else see it. It's from a time I'd very much like to forget . . . ." [#spoiler=Lv2 Secret Information] ONE YEAR EARLIER . . . | Lunares, huh? A company where employees join and are never allowed to leave? Sounds like a perfect place for me to waste away. Of course, maybe I can actually accomplish something before my soul is inevitably crushed under the weight of this oppressive life. Why is it so oppressive? Here's but one example: Every night for as long as I can remember, I've had a nightmare where I violently cough up black blood and writhe in pain until I inevitably awaken gasping for air. I have never had a night of quality sleep. Nobody has given me a sufficient answer as to why this could be happening to me. I thought that by studying psychology, I might be able to unearth the answer on my own. Yet I have found nothing but dead-ends. I'm tired of this. Of being a slave to what I can only describe as a cursed mind. There is one curious tidbit I discovered in my research. There was a village back in the 1600s where a man sharing my surname seems to have suffered the same fate I do in my nightmare, along with several others. I've only ever believed in hard science, but as far as I can tell what seems to have happened to them has no natural explanation. What this means for me I cannot say. But . . . a counselor is no good if they're all doom and gloom, right? So, despite my tragic lease in life, I vow to be the happiest, brightest, most-effective counselor L-Corp has ever had. If I can come back from this, I can overcome anything. And maybe, finally, somebody will be proud of me. |
[/spoiler] "I, um, I found this instead! It's a much happier moment. Why not put this one in my file?" [#spoiler=Lv1 Secret Information] ONE YEAR EARLIER . . . | One of my passions outside the job I'm applying for? Hm, gimme a moment to think on that one. Oh, I know! I've actually always dabbled in mixology. That's right--and I know alcohol probably isn't allowed in the workplace, but--I pride myself on being able to mix up a good cocktail, or any other mixed drink you want! I'm hoping to incorporate this into my counseling somehow. Maybe if there are ingredients on-site? We can discuss that in more detail once I'm there. Even if it's coffee-based drinks, I've always fancied myself a barista. How 'bout that, eh? Don't bartending and counseling kinda go hand-in-hand sometimes? Nothing soothes the soul quite like a good cuppa joe, right? Oh! I might be getting ahead of myself though. Perhaps I should wait until I'm sure I'm hired before making any big plans, teehee. |

Yeah! I'm super proud of it.
I guess if nothing else, you could reveal the entire roster's files at the end of the game, all in one convenient place. That is, assuming this forum doesn't have a character limit!

So, just out of curiosity--asking for a friend (Josephine is that friend,) how likely is it that an employee who has died on-site will be brought back to life? And what's the "respawn time" usually? Is it flexible? Because I have an idea that relates to the much more secret information that Josephine would want to keep secretly secret.
Basically, I'm brainstorming ideas for how the nightmare she was having would cease, and I figure something she did or something that happened to her caused it to stop. I figured having died and come back, in whatever way that entails, might've done something to the "curse," or, since there's a ton of Abnormalities out there, maybe she worked with one in particular that rid her of her woes.

I think it's pretty variable I don't want to restrict things too much.
It's usually saved for when a lot of people die, or when very valuable employees die. But it's also possible that like, the captain of the Welfare team pulled some strings and asked for Josephine to come back? Or anything in between basically.
The only sort of hard limit I'd say is that she probably hasn't died and came back like 3+ times, yknow? It's pretty flexible!

I guess the details surrounding Josephine's potential death and revival don't have to matter for the purposes of the game, but I don't think anyone likes a lazy backstory, so . . . I have to think on it some more.
That said, the introduction of Saber does give me some ideas. As I noted in the sign-up thread, I have no trouble seeing him and Josephine getting along well together. I don't want to speak for Saber, but he might even appreciate how open with information about the status of her clients (without getting into personal details, of course) she is. If you can think of any reason why they might be in conflict at all, please let me know.

I think Saber would be very encouraging of how Josephine helps out the employees. Happy employees are better workers, sure, but he just enjoys seeing people bettering themselves!
I think they'll get along great!

Perfect! Now, it's vital that Josephine knows what Saber's favorite drink is.
Also, being in good with at least one Team Captain will help Josephine let down her hair a bit. Also, I'm sure being on good terms with him would certainly facilitate her job, what with possibly having some ground on requesting information on particularly harrowing or mentally-stressful Abnormalities to be aware of.

Saber... hrm... I'll have to think about what he drinks...

Well, you have a little over a week to figure it out! Haha.
Also, I know you were worried about there being too many team leaders. That being said, I'm not sure it'd be realistic for an employee who hasn't worked for the company for even a year to graduate to the role of Team Captain. Let me know if I'm wrong, because I'd honestly be happy for Josephine to be in that role, as long as it wouldn't necessarily affect her responsibilities and free time too greatly.

It's definitely possible! Though I think it makes a touch more sense where she's at now, but if you want to make that happen it's not a huge conflict to lore or whatever.
We're all here just to have some fun anyways!

Eh, I think you're right; I'll keep her out of a managerial role . . . for now. You can bet if she survives this game though, she's gonna want one hell of a pay raise!
