Black Fable 4 — Your Murder will Not be Televised

Everyday, the water got higher, yet folk still liked to pretend they ruled the world.

Red sat by the river, twirling the headphone cord round their finger. They sat on a jetty by the water, staring into its murky depths from the shade of a massive skyscraper. It was a dull grey day, probably fixing to rain. They pulled up the crimson hood of their long jacket.

They remembered they were a kid once. They went down here with their parents a couple times. The river was like the beach to them, and even if you couldn’t see your hand through the water you could feel its gentle touch. That was before Leon fenced it off.

But yeah, they sat on the bank right there once, counting leaves as they passed. Now the river was nearly a foot higher, and the only thing floating in that current was a dead body.

They pressed a button on their ear.

“This is DJ Red, live from the scene. Looks like the party’s already got started.”

Their partner pulled the corpse onto the concrete. She was the muscle—decked in combat gear with modified legs and a hand that could shoot bullets. For self-defense, she always said, but she couldn’t hide the thrill in her eyes.

“Typical interrogation gone wrong,” she explained, eyes whirring. “They practically flayed the skin right off…No doubt Leon’s gang is behind this.”

Red stood to approach the corpse. They paused the tape deck around their waist.

“Any identification?”

“Smells like pork to me. Two phones, ID’s probably fake, no obvious gang modifications. Guess Leon found one of the Witches.”

“But he was interrogating him. He didn’t find all of them,” Red’s shirt matched their name and pulsed faintly in the breeze. “Which means things are about to get a lot more gruesome, and not in a fun way.”

“You think we’ll find more?”

“Now now, the stiff’s barely stiff,” Red laughed infectiously. “Let’s focus on what we’ve got for now.”

Red knelt by the body and pulled out a thin, metal tool. He wiped some blood off the victim’s head and pressed it down. With a dull buzz, electricity crackled from the device, and an imperceptible panel opened in the body’s head. Red reached into the small compartment and pulled out a thin black chip.

“The hell’s that?”

“A Black Box,” Red smiled at the sleek device. “Everybody with a dangerous job has one. When someone dies, it snaps a picture of their final sight and saves the last thirty seconds of audio they heard.”

She crossed her sturdy arms and frowned.

“So it’s always recording, then?”

“Only thing that’s not nowadays is your toilet,” Red said. “Point is, maybe we can learn something from our poor cop’s last outing.”

There was a small slot below Red’s ear, and they slipped the chip inside. For a moment, they found themselves thrust into the grainy audio of the dead man’s memories…

[#spoiler=Gameplay Overview]There are X factions which can:

Mobsters: The “townie” role. The mob wins an arc if they outnumber the cops at the end of the game. They win the game if they identify all the cops.

Cops: The “witch” role. Cops win an arc if equal or more cops than mobsters survive to the end of an arc. They win the game if their identities are never uncovered. The Cops know each other’s identities and are able to communicate in a private space.


There are four arcs:
Three of these are primary arcs. These are the main portion of the game, where players are murdered and executed. Victory in an individual arc is decided based on the ratio of players left alive.
The last arc is the answer arc, in which the Mobsters must identify the Cops hiding among them. Accusations in this arc are decided by majority vote. The mob gets 5 guesses to start with and earns an additional guess with each arc victory, but if a single cop remains after all guesses are expended the game ends in failure for the mob.


Within each arc, there are three kinds of phases:
Carnage Phase - Each player targets someone with their action, which is assigned at the beginning of the game. Once all the actions are resolved, people will DIE. At the end of this phase, you will learn if you have survived and gain any information you uncovered.
Argument Phase - After discovering the previous phase’s victims (and there will be a LOT of victims), the remaining players will choose someone to execute. No power or faction information will be given upon the character’s death. However, there’s a new way to gain this info…
Reckoning Phase - Only occurs at the end of the arc, after a victor has been declared. Players are able to make a total of five guesses in the form of “A the B killed X the Y” with character names and roles selected from a list. Guesses are first come, first serve, but players may only make one guess each. Players can discuss who should make which guess in the thread or privately. Additionally, players who are still alive at the end of the arc are unable to make guesses!

To assist with the Reckoning Phase, there will be a limited public role list.

Those who die in an arc are sent to Gangsta Heaven (tentatively named) where they are able to talk with other dead people and watch proceedings in the world of the living.[/spoiler]

Mobsters win if there are more Mobsters than Cops.
Cops win if there are equal or more Cops than Mobsters


Carnage Actions
Some players have passive abilities instead of Carnage Actions that are always active.
Some players have multiple Carnage Actions.
All players are forced to use their primary Carnage Action.
Some people can target the dead with their actions.
Carnage Actions will happen at roughly the same time, but some actions always happen first or last.
Information is learned at the end of the Carnage Phase.


The Answer Arc
At the end of the three arcs, players will have one final chance to identify the Cops. They will have five or more guesses to find every Cop.
If the Mobsters have not found all Cops after using all their guesses, the Cops win the game.
If the Mobsters guess all four Cops, Mortals win the game.
For each arc ending in victory for the Mortals, the Mortals will be given one additional guess.


The Cops
The killing power of the Cops is a special Carnage Action that cannot be removed by any role.
It starts in the hands of the leader. If the leader dies, it is passed to the next living Cop in line.
The killing power is used in addition to any other abilities a Cop may have.
The killing power can’t kill the same person during the first Carnage Phase twice. If this is attempted, the kill will fail.
Some characters may be aligned with the Cops without being a Cop. Some characters may be aligned with the Mobsters without being a Mobster. Some nights I stay up cashing in my bad luck. Some nights I call it a draw.


The Reckoning Phase
Once an arc is over, those who died in the process can participate in the Reckoning Phase.
Players may make 5 Fate Entries for a chance of role confirmations.
Fate Entries center on a murder. They are a statement: "X the Y killed A the B." X and A are character names, Y and B are their respective roles.
Players may only enter one Fate Entry per Reckoning Phase.
If 3 correct Fate Entries are inserted, they will enter the Database. These statements can be taken as unalterable fact.
In-thread discussion among the dead is allowed.
You may not make statements about murders involving Leon Lunetti during the Reckoning Phase.
Additional guesses may be awarded during the Answer Phase, if deemed appropriate.


The Role List
A role list will be discovered in the world of the game. At first, the list will be incomplete, but more information will be added after each Arc.
Some roles in the list may not be present in the game.
Some Carnage Actions may be able to interact with the role list.[/spoiler]

“Hmm, that’s a shame. Because you’ll tell everything to the other Witches, right?”

A sharp crack. Torn flesh. A scream of pain.

“You won’t kill me. You know what’s in my head.”

“The problem with innovation, my good sir, is that you have to polish both sides of the coin.”

“Speak English, motherfuck—Augh!”

Another rough blow.

“Your team has nothing. I can change my voice at the drop of a hat. And even the most second-rate crook can put on a mask.”

Fabric shuffles and footsteps cross wet tiles.

“Boss, what are you—?”

“Your job is done.”

Hooks clink on the floor. A dull beep—something powers on.

“I want them to sit at their desks seething—as the man they can’t touch tears another one of them to shreds.”

“You’ll pay for this!”

An inhuman whirr builds to an unearthly whine. A cry of pain and a loud slam. Water splashes. A step forward.

A crack.

His head was halfway submerged in the bowl of a urinal, catching a dim glimpse above the lip. His hand reached out uselessly. Long jagged hooks fly through the air on leather belts, some drawing blood from his neck. A man in a baggy hoodie and a jacket swings the brutal whip with extraordinary force, his glowing arm casting light on the tiled floor. A bulky man behind him has his back turned. The killer wears a knit balaclava and a prideful grin.

Leon Lunetti washed his bloody hands in the sink. Cybernetic lights reflected in the mirror dimmed down as he ran his hands through his sleek grey hair. The metallic eye in his wrinkled face blinked with a subtle whirr.

“You know what to do, Sergio.”

The other man was already lifting the corpse from below the bloodstained urinal.

“Sure thing, boss. Save me a slice, okay?”

Leon tossed the hoodie on the bathroom floor by the mask and whip. He straightened the lapels of his suit and then threw the door open, walking through the halls of his brilliant tower with a smile on his face.

Near the top on the fiftieth floor, a round protrusion jutted from the side of the building. Several people were gathered within in front of the curved glass window. It was usually covered in holograms but now revealed the city, a web of red and blue lights piercing through the dense fog.

Here in the lounge, a familiar bartender fixed drinks. Leon’s family members and associates arrived one by one, eyeing the massive cake in the middle of the room. It was a faithful representation of the Diana Tower, Leon’s 60-floor skyscraper that cut through the Vista Del Luna skyline.

Finally, the double doors on the indoor balcony swung open and Leon emerged in all his glory, rapping his cane on the floor. He leaned over the railing and spoke like a preacher from the pulpit.

“Sorry I’m late. Had to handle a vermin problem.”

He swung the tip of the cane to his gloved hand. His artificial eye glowed green.

“I’ll let you all get settled in…Once all the guests have arrived, we will proceed.”

"Late to your own birthday party, Leon! For shame, for shame." the annoyingly cheery (and copyrighted) simulated voice of Mona Lunetti greeted their friend. "Was the vermin that tough? Or is that old body already failing you at just 80 years old?"

Leo, the impossibly cute Rottweiler puppy, hipped and hopped at the sight of Leon's entrance. His tail fluttered like the razors of a helicopter. He began to bark, bark, bark at Leon, and bared his teeth, practicing his intimidation technique and hoping his incredibly cute teeth wouldn't get in the way of how scary a Rottweiler should be.

He had a special collar around his neck that seemed to be malfunctioning at the moment, but was normally used to convey his thoughts through a computerized voice.

His cute, stubbly legs, which were anatomically abnormal for a Rottweiler despite its young age, and he couldn't reach Leon from his glorious reach up above. It seemed to frustrate him, so much so that he'd let out some adorably weak yelps in protest at his cursed anatomy.

He circled the nearest person in an incredibly annoying, yet impressively fast manner, in an indication that he wanted to be picked up. If he were higher in the air, he would feel more dominant and sagely, he thought, hoping people would realize his potential.

[Pierre]

Behind the small bar stood a striking red skeleton. A Skeleton might seem striking enough, but this one sported a fashionable pink jacket and a pair of stylish shades. This was Demarro "Bones" Bonelli, the owner of The Spine and a longtime friend to Leon and well-known associate to the Lunetti family. Bones looked up towards the balcony and joined in the cheers and applause welcoming the birthday "boy". "Ey! D'boy can't be late Mona! Ain't no party starts in this city without Leon Lunetti's say so after all eh?" Bones cackled as he extended his arms and threw a mixer into his ribcage. With some incredible undulating, the mixer rattled around bouncing off the insides of his ribcage before an elegant flip of the hip popped it out into his skeletal hand before pouring the drink.

The small puppy danced around his legs and Bones nearly lost his balance. "Hey hey! Gimme a break Leo! C'mon I'm working ova 'ere!" Bones sighed before eventually reaching down to scoop the pup up and place him on the bar "Go bother some of the other guests yeah?"

Bones chuckled before returning to his work and, with a flourish, he tilted his left fingertip down. The bone clicked back with a satisfying click and a spritz of soda water was dispensed. "There ya go, pal, enjoy the party." he said sliding the drink along to it's intended guest.

Leon calmly stepped over the 5-foot high balcony. Immediately small blue lights lit up in the bottom of his shoes, and he began to float slowly and safely to the ground below. Apparently this was easier than taking the spiral staircase two feet to higher right.

“Perhaps I am wearing down,” he said, looking down at Mona. “Or perhaps I’ve simply learned to appreciate the little things in my old age. Sometimes I do think the world goes a little too fast.”

Outside the window, a drunk driver crashed into the building’s force field and careened into the horizon. Leon didn’t seem to notice.

He approached the bar, grabbing the drink and taking a sip. With the other hand, he stooped to pick up Leo. He stared at the pooch with an air of disappointment, as if waiting for him to be scarier, but still couldn’t help but crack a smile.

“Oh, is your collar broken? Hmph, can’t trust offshore manufacturers with anything. We’ll have to fix that up later.”

A man enters the room, one of his hands holding onto the hand of a woman who was by his side. His dark brown hair was swept-back and reaches down to his neck. Even though he's 28 years old, he's surprisedly well-shaven. The man was wearing a red school varsity jacket over a white t-shirt, jeans and black Converse sneakers. He seems to be fond of jewelry as there are hoop earrings on his ears (two on right ear, one on left ear), and rings on his fingers. Two rings adorn each of his hands: the rings on his right hand were on his index finger and pinky finger; the rings on his left hand were on his middle finger and ring finger. A ring on a necklace rest on his neck. The only thing that makes him stands out from the crowd was his sunglasses, which might strike some people as strange. He doesn't seem bothered by the fact that he's wearing sunglasses inside the building though.

People who have seen this man around Vista del Luna would know him as Leon's son, Kolton Lunetti; heir to the Lunetti family name.

Kolton looks over to see the antic that Leo was pulling off over at the bar. Though, it's hard to tell if his eyes were looking at Leo or Bones, but Kolton was amused by the sight. He then looked over to where his father is.

"Happy birthday, Dad! I don't blame ya for being late to your own damn party." Kolton called out before he focuses his attention on the woman who was still standing next to him.

"Isn't it great that we get to celebrate my old man's 80th birthday together, sweetheart?" The man asked before he kissed her on the cheek, showcasing his affection towards her. He smiles warmly at her afterwards.

A nearly seven foot buff green man, wearing sunglasses indoors and a backwards Samurai baseball cap backwards as well as a light blue button down shirt of extremally synthetic material (with it's sleeves ripped off to make room for Broccoli Rob's massive guns) moves up lightly for a man of almost 500 lbs to the bar and Leon, and in what would be an insanely forward move for anyone else, simply walks up the Leon Lunetti, and takes his pulse. After a moment he nods, gives Leon a thumbs up.

"You're pulse is up, but to a normal level. Your Adrenaline Augment isn't autoengaging. And the key, as always, is enough leafy greens. The perfect source of iron for a young cyborg." He then gives everyone a thumbs up, as if they were all waiting to hear about the importance of leafy greens. He then Gestures for his usual drink from Pierre.


"I'll have a Tequilla Old fashioned, a splash of beer and chili garnish, and a kale smoothie chaser! have you tried those calcium chews I suggested?" That's right, a try hard drink with a blended kale chaser and unwanted vitamin talk. The Broccoli Rob special.

[Panda]

Mercy Decado, soon to be Lunetti, was holding Kolton's hand while her other hand was wrapped almost possessively around his arm. There was a fairy-tail-like air to the couple as they strode into the room, butterflies gently fluttering around them.

She was, as ever, immaculate. Stylish clothes befitting her position and the occasion, long, carefully styled hair in an unnatural pale blue, and nails that would cost a normal person their full month's salary. Even the obvious imperfection, her mismatched amber eye, was in fact a fashion choice. Some knew that there was a somewhat distasteful antenna sticking out of her head, but this was artfully covered up by a hat that perfectly completed the outfit. Mercy was marrying into the most powerful family around, and she wanted everyone to know it.

While Kolton addressed his father, Mercy shot an angry glare at Leo, who she felt was ruining the idyllic atmosphere. Then Kolton turned and kissed her on the cheek, and her tense expression immediately melted away into a goofy grin. "It's wonderful, honey bun. To be included like this, celebrating my soon-to-be father's birthday, it's like I'm already a part of the family! Plus I get to see you all dressed up and dangerous; really, today is just the best day ever!" She snuggled up against him in a way that probably looked obnoxious to just about everyone else in the room.

[Bad Player]

Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois was wearing one of Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois' simplest outfits: a pink dress with a hoop skirt about seven times as wide as Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois at the base covered in frills, sequins, bows, embroidery and ornamental flowers as well as sleeves with cuffs that flared out into multiple layers of lace, a pink gemstone necklace with matching bracelets, pink hair done in a monstrous up-do adorned with a massive feather sticking up from behind one ear, a small veil that only covered Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois' eyes and, to top off the ensemble, a parasol too small to be used for anything. (The hoop skirt obscured Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois' lower body at basically all times but if anybody did manage to get a peek they would see that Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois most definitely does not have cybernetically enhanced spider legs.)

It was not clear whether Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois had actually been invited, but no party took place in this city without Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois' knowledge, and very few concluded without at least a brief appearance. Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois had just come from Susie Ramirez's sixth birthday party which had both a piñata and pin-the-cybernetic-enhancement-on-the-donkey, so Leon would need to do something pretty extraordinary to impress Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois.

Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois was standing at the bar, surveying the area with an expression of light disdain (although it has been said Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois has resting light disdain face, so this may not mean much). Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois didn't seem to be paying much attention to the fact that the host of the party and head of the Lunetti crime family was nearby.

"Ha! If you say so, old friend." Mona's perpetual smiley face disappeared from their screen, replaced by a rapidly scrolling string of flashing text. The words 'ExpSim 0.8' were repeated enough to be readable. "I'll simulate a shot of tequila now! Bones, pour one down the drain for me if you will."

The text scrolled faster, the screen flashed more, and their body twitched sharply a few times, but it was all over in a few seconds with a very unfitting DING as Mona's face returned. "Oho, that hits the spot..."

"Vermin? I don see how dat could be a problem? Leon, yer usually not da type to be so regressive." The voice comes from one of Leon's most trusted goons, a group of rats partying on the dance floor. As they dance, even more rats scuttle in from around the guests, quite possibly upsetting them.

Those with an inner-circle knowledge of the Lunetti family might identify this random group of rats as "Deep Rat," an informant whose mere existence has made every rat in the city untrustworthy.

Seeing the group of rats show up to the party, Kolton knew that this event would be upsetting his Mercy and chose to distract her away from the rats.

"Say, sweetheart, why don't we go get some drinks?" The man asked as he tugs on her hand and gesturing towards the bar. "I heard that Bones make a special drink for lovers to enjoy."

Coming through the entrance with a noticeable delay behind everyone else was the noticeable clacking of heels. The reason they're so loud was mostly due to the person wearing them.

Bright red metal reflects the light right back into whoever's eyes try to get a look. But as she steps into the room, the light reflection dies down.

A striking appearance, contrasting bright red with black. Her outfit is rather revealing, exposing her midriff and along with it, a rather intricate dragon tattoo. The vest hides little, but thankfully she's wearing pants. Tight fitting black pants ending with red heeled boots, matching the woman's cybernetic arm. Atop her head were red horns, connected to a headband. On her back was a guitar that seemed just a bit too big for her frame.

In her hand she held a "retro" music playing device. The picture of the artist might've been familiar to some, while the song that played was pretty strange.

But the girl quickly stopped her music and put it all away, pulling out a small candy lollipop right after.

"So, who the hell is responsible for that crash outside? Heh." She grinned. "Sure as hell made getting here messier than it needed to be." Her tone gave the impression that she was annoyed, but the smile on her face implied otherwise. She walked right over to the bar, leaving the stick of the lollipop sticking out of her mouth and took a seat, putting her guitar down next to her.

"Give me something stiff, yeah?" She bit down on her candy and brushed her hair out of her eyes, seemingly unaware of what she just said.

Mercy was indeed quite disturbed by the dancing swarm of rats, and was glad of the distraction. "A lovers' special? That man is a genius!" She allowed herself to be escorted over to the bar, giving a simple nod to Bones as they drew close. Like most here, she visited his bar on occasion, and it paid to be polite to the man who'd be making her drinks for the evening.

She flashed a scowl as Athena rocked up to the bar also. "You do know how to make an appearance, don't you," she said dryly. Their outfits were about as polar opposite as could be; it would be a strange sight seeing them together, if they weren't being served by a red skeleton.

Leon calmly stepped over the 5-foot high balcony. Immediately small blue lights lit up in the bottom of his shoes, and he began to float slowly and safely to the ground below. Apparently this was easier than taking the spiral staircase two feet to higher right.

Outside the window, a drunk driver crashed into the building’s force field and careened into the horizon. Leon didn’t seem to notice.

He approached the bar, grabbing the drink and taking a sip. With the other hand, he stooped to pick up Leo. He stared at the pooch with an air of disappointment, as if waiting for him to be scarier, but still couldn’t help but crack a smile.

“Oh, is your collar broken? Hmph, can’t trust offshore manufacturers with anything. We’ll have to fix that up later.”

Observers could have sworn Leo's brow was furrowing with fury as the others found him positively adorable. However, the sight of his master overwhelmed his manly desires and prompted him to assault Leon with a flurry of licks.

"Of course, allow me to show you to the bar." Kolton said as he walked Mercy over to the bar, smiling at her.

Upon reaching the bar, the man tapped the fingers of his right hand on the surface of the bar, almost as if he's drumming his fingers.

"Yo, Bones! Can you make the lovers' special for my Mercy and I?" Kolton requested as he looks at Mercy. And then he sees his niece show up at the bar.

"Hey, Athena. How have you been? Been a while since we last spoken." He asked his niece.

"You got a problem with that?" Athena laughs lightly at Mercy's tone, before turning away from her, not even waiting for an answer.

She leans back in her seat and stretches her arms up before responding to her uncle.

"Not to bad over here. I'm just keeping on. You know how it is, I'm sure. Glad to see you're keeping well." Athena smiles, seemingly happy to chat with her uncle, not paying much mind to his fiancée. "The old fart probably has a lot planned for today. Best we all keep our wits about us, before we're stuck chasing a crazy goat around town."

In a flurry of rapid movements and bone-jarring speed, Bones served up everyone who requested a drink their preferred drink.

For The Broccoli Rob - One disgustingly-healthy-looking green smoothie. "Heh...Calcium Tablets yeah sure, you crack me up Broccoli Rob." his teeth clacked together satisfyingly. "So tells me, what's your secret? Body mods? Steroids? Some secret gym routine? I ain't never seen no other toughs the size of ya." he praised the big man.


As Kolton and Mercy rocked up to the bar: "Eyy if it isn't the prodigal son 'imself! And the future Mrs Lunetti no less! Let me hook you two lovebirds up eh?" he said disappearing behind the counter to whip up a peculiar looking drink. It came with two coloured liquids in two different glasses. One a deep violet, the other a luscious pink. The idea was that the two lovers would each sip a drink (none of which is pretty stellar on it's own) but then kiss with the liquid still in their mouth mixing into something magical and electric...

Or there was two Y-shaped straws placed beside it for simplicity's sake...



For Athena: "Right away Athena, the classics are appreciated as well, 'specially when stressed out." he said preparing a simple whisky for the lass. "Lookin' sweet tonight Athena. You ever fancy playing my club sometime? Would be happy to give you any spot, any night you wanted."

Before even touching either glass, Mercy commanded two of her butterfly drones to gently alight on the rim of each and take a miniscule sip. It was a picturesque sight, but she was in fact checking for poison, excessively paranoid as usual. Once that was done she quickly took one of the Y-straws to use, hoping to pre-empt any thoughts about doing the shared kiss thing which apparently offended her delicate sensibilities. She sampled it, then nodded her approval. "As I said, you're a genius, Bones! Keep up the good work."

"That's good to hear, Athena. And it sure seems like my old man have a lot on his plate, huh? Let's hope it doesn't get too crazy." Kolton replied to Athena, glad to know that his niece is doing well after all.

And that's when Bones served the lovers' special. "You're the best, Bones!" The man said as he gives the skeleton a thumbs-up. Then he takes the remaining y-shaped straw from the counter before he makes eye contact with his fiancée.

"Ah, the lovers' special..." Kolton said as he gives Mercy a smile. "Let me know when you're ready so we can enjoy the lovers' special."

Leon chuckled quietly and then put the dog down on the counter behind him, getting distracted by everyone else vying for his attention.

"Ah, good to hear, Rob. Thanks for the suggestions," Leon replied, only vaguely paying attention. "Stick around after the party, and we can discuss it in more detail."

His tone suggested he had more important things to discuss than leafy greens, but he quickly shifted his attention to the rats.

"Ah, apologies for any offense, Izza. I don't mean your sort of vermin...perhaps 'parasite' is more appropriate. People that try to starve you from the inside but can't survive the firm press of a boot. I'm sure you understand."

He leveled a glare at Athena, her comment not escaping his ear, but continued drinking from his glass.

"It seems you haven't changed, Athena. Don't worry, this 'old fart' has plenty planned for tonight. I'm sure even you will be entertained."

He dropped everything upon noticing Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachio Charlemagne Natalia Marie Clementine Montague du Bois and approached her, giving a polite bow.

"Ah, I'm glad you could make it, Countess Elizabeth Arette Pistachi Charlemagne, err...Natalia Clementine Montague DuBois," he spoke with a wide grin. "I hope everything is to your liking. Please, feel free to mingle. I'm sure everyone here knows of you."

The positioning of the glasses of course meant there was no way for Kolton and Mercy to drink together side-by-side without pressing their faces up against each other, even though they were in public. Mercy nodded and moved in to start drinking, despite this. Very indecent.

At Leon's comment, she spoke up. "Ah yes, we're well aware of the rain cloud that comes whenever anyone tries to have a picnic. Aren't your dogs supposed to keep the riffraff out, father? Or are they all as harmless as that runt Leo?"

"Oh, come on! Don't give me that look, pops." Athena grins and lets out a laugh while sipping her drink.

"I'm just giving you a hard time. I know you got everything sorted out. I'm looking forward to all this, honest. Happy Birthday."

Replying to Bones, Athena nods confidently a few times. "I'm usually out, I'm sure you know, but I'd love to stick around for a while and give you all a show. Would love to play. Should be fun."

Deep Rat, known sometimes by Izza Snitch, the being controlling the swarm by through esoteric means, nods the heads of all the little rats in response to Leon, “Nuffin’ wrong wif a term like parasite. Just a scientific fing, dat is. Some parasites is good, some is bad, but deys can be a pain, no doubt.”

The rats gather at the bar, parched after a long dance. They look at one another, then to the personable bartending skeleton, “Wese’ll take free-ferty-foif of yer finest brews!”

"Ugh, must you do that? Can't you..." Mercy waved her hand vaguely. "...Combine into the shape of an ordinary person, or something? If I have to watch a hundred rats drinking cocktails I fear I might scream."

Kolton nods at Mercy before he goes into drinking the lovers' special. But, by then, the rats have gathered at the bar.

"Ugh, are you trying to ruin the special moment between my Mercy and I?" Kolton asked the rats, annoyed by their presence.

Nonetheless, Kolton continues to drink the lovers' special. He made sure to have the liquid in his mouth when he had to kiss her. All part of the lovers' special package, indeed.

"Ah, there you are, dear."

An old yet stern looking woman had come from the same door where Leon came from. "I was wondering where you were. I presume everything went... according to plan?"

This was Leslie, the betrothed of the king of this place. She wore a stern look upon her face, and despite her age her body seemed very well in shape. Her dress was reserved yet beautiful, though contrasted by the cold look in her eyes.

As she came down the stares, she noticed her son having the lover's drink with Mercy. A surprised, mildly disapproving look on her face, she immediately rushed up to him and grabbed him into a surprisingly tight hug, tackling him away from the intimate drink he was sharing with his fiancé. Shooting her a glare, she started patting Kolton's cheeks. "Kolty, dear! How nice of you to show up! How have you been? Hopefully no one's been targeting you in any manner?"

Her thinly veiled words did not do a good job of hiding her distrust of Mercy, who had so openly bragged about falling in love with her son when she was ordered to take a hit out on him. Leslie, who had already lost a child, could not keep her suspicions of her from coming out every time she reunited with her darling son, often being vocal about it to the point of annoyance for the both of them. "I do wish you'd call us more, dear. I worry about you far too much... Ah! I see we have another visitor today too", she added, noticing Athena present there. "I presume you've been doing well yourself? Do try and keep in touch with us a bit more, if you could. I know you're responsible enough to take care of yourself, but it would bring me and Leon some peace of mind hearing from you regularly."

"Mother." Mercy greeted her soon-to-be mother-in-law coldly. "Lively as ever, I see. Do you really have the time to be worrying over Kolton-dearest? Surely your years will catch up to you any day now."

One moment, Kolton was anticipating the moment where he'll get to kiss Mercy and the next moment, he was being hugged by his mother.

"Moooooom!" Kolton shouted in an irritated tone, knowing that his mother just ruined the special moment that he was having with his fiancée. "I told you numerous times to stop calling me Kolty."

He let out a sigh before looking his mother in the eyes. Of course, even with his sunglasses on, his mother can tell that Kolton is looking at her directly in the eyes.

"I've been fine, Mom. My job has kept me really busy lately, so I was unable to call you." Leslie can sense that he's feeling sorry for himself. "Sorry about that. I'll try to find some free time in my job to call you when I can, okay?" He then shot Mercy an apologetic look.
