Ava follows close on Lyric’s heels, humming to herself as they list off suggestions.
“Ooh, cold cuts? If you don’t mind wraps instead of a regular sandwich, I could make us something, actually. If, uh. If you want that.”

"Are you kidding? I'd never turn down a delicacy made by the Ava Dianthus!" Lyric exclaims, laughing all the way, heading towards a cabinet, "Sous Chef Lyric Eventide, at your service." They bow.

Ava has just barely learned enough from her time at Crab Manor to not interpret Lyric’s tone as mocking, and instead just playfully rolls her eyes and walks into the kitchen to get started on making their light meal.
Once they’re assembled, they’re nothing special really, just whatever cold cuts were in the fridge, spinach, tomato, a quickly mixed-together spicy mayo, and dijon mustard in a tortilla, but, presentation-wise they are surprisingly neat. She put them together pretty quickly, too.
“It’s not much, but, hope you like it.”

Lyric smiles and nods as they take their plate. As she sits down, before they start eating, she speaks up.
"I just realized what I said before might've sounded condescending or disingenuous. That wasn't my intent." Lyric's smile, while warm, was a bit subdued, "I'll be more mindful."
She looks at the wrap on her plate and her face brightens. This is a momentous occasion. "To our first meal together as BFFs!" They then wait to take a bite alongside Ava, unless the other has already started chowing down.

“Don’t worry about it.” is all Ava says before she joins Lyric in eating their little wraps. I dunno she just doesn’t have much to say and is hungrier than she thought I guess.

Like Ava, Lyric wordlessly enjoys her wrap.
When she's done, they comment, "That was good! I never would've thought to put spicy mayo and dijon mustard together. I always thought it might be too much, but it was just fine!"

“Glad you liked it.” Ava replies while daintily wiping her mouth with a napkin. “I’ve never thought it was that weird of a combo, but, this is the first time I’ve ever made food for someone else, so…”

"That's understandable. Everyone has different tastes, after all. It worked out," Lyric replies, carefully blotting her face with her own napkin.
After the dishes have been taken care of, Lyric asks, "So, take that walk now, or relax for a bit?"

“Let’s walk. Maybe we can play one of the games at the garage or chill by the lake or something?”

"Sounds epic! Let's see what games they have at the garage," Lyric suggests. They look back toward the bunk room entrance pondering something, and then returns her attention to Ava. "I . . . think Hannah will be fine here by herself." They consider saying something else, but decide against it. "Let's be off!" And she made to walk out of the cabin.

“So…” Ava starts attempting to make small talk as she walks with Lyric, “you an outdoorsy kinda person?”

"Eeeeh . . . 'bout half and half," Lyric responds after a brief pause, "I probably get outside more than most people these days, but I'm not a hiker or trekker or anything like that. My parents were the 'go outside and play' types; no video games, very limited TV time. I did learn to appreciate nature a bit more as a result, at least, and I guess maybe I'm more drawn to the fact that there's so much variety in what the outdoors looks like compared to indoor spaces, and I do call the cacophony of animal sounds 'Nature's Orchestra,' so I can definitely see how I'd be seen as a treehugger, hmhmhm."

“Hmm…” Ava muses, thoughtfully, and then kicks a pebble.
“Maybe I would’ve turned out different if my mom ever limited me playing games or being on the computer. But I’m ‘lucky’ if she even remembers I exist most of the time…”

"Course things would've gone differently. Better or worse though, who can say? And you didn't mention your dad. Is that a 'we don't go there' topic?" Lyric watches the path the pebble takes as Ava kicks it. "But you're here now, and the real question to think about is, 'Where do I want to go from here?' If the answer is 'I don't know,' that's okay; we can not know together!"

Ava’s silent for a while, and while she’s notably quiet she does not look Lyric’s way in the slightest.
“Never met my dad. Mom’d just get angry and flatout refuse to tell me anything about him, but judging from how my stepdad’s a fuckin’ deadbeat, she must have shitty taste in guys.”
She lets out a sigh before continuing, “And I dunno about what I want for the future. I’m just kinda taking the whole death show thing one day at a time now so I don’t lose it. If I just pretend like this is a shitty vacation, it doesn’t seem so bad, y’know?”

As the pebble stops, Lyric kicks it farther down the path and watches it skitter along as Ava talks again.
"Ohhhhhh . . . Oof. Yep, no more needs to be said; I think I understand the situation perfectly," Lyric comments through clenched teeth. "Whenever you ask her, it probably brings back all the stuff your biodad did to her. It's not your fault for wanting to know, but I doubt knowing will make anything better. Sorry for bringing it up."
They look somber as the both of them continue to walk, the garage building now in sight. "Yeah, I think you have the right idea taking this one day at a time. Besides," Lyric leans in and whispers to Ava, "we have plenty of yuri to help make this vacation less shitty!"

Ava is very eager to brush past the less fortunate parts of her past that she revealed, and a smirk creeps onto her lips as she lightly bumps her hip into Lyric.
“Hell yeah we do. My collection can easily get us through this whole shitshow.”

Lyric feels the bump and tries to gently hip-bump Ava right back, their smile returning.
"Hah, looking forward to it!" As they approach the garage, Lyric asks, "So, they basically have the stuff for any game you can think of in here. Do you have any particular favorites? Oh! There are also some ATVs if you feel a bit more like a thrill ride."

Ava makes a face when Lyric brings up the ATVs. Weird.
“Uh… I’ve never been an outdoorsy person, so. Do you wanna choose the lawn game, maybe?”

"Not a fan of the ATV idea, huh . . . ? That's fine; I was honestly hoping you wouldn't be, either," Lyric comments with a sheepish chuckle.
"Well, if we want a game, Bocce's pretty simple. You roll or throw a small ball, the jack, some distance away, then take turns 'bowling' bigger balls at the jack to see who can come closest. If you'd rather just throw a ball or a Frisbee around, that's also fine. We could also just sit against a tree and geek out about anime some more!"

“Bocce sounds good.” Ava concisely replies, immediately letting her usual cockiness flow back into her at the faintest presence of competition, “But don’t let your guard down just ‘cause I’ve never played before! I’ve got killer hand-eye coordination.”

"Oh yeah? We'll see about that! It's on!" Lyric proclaims as they enter the garage to find the bocce set. She and Ava then walk to the flattest part of the field near the garage they can find. After setting up the court and picking colors, the two competitors stand facing each other at one end of it. Lyric thinks for a moment. "Okay, so the rules of the game are pretty simple," Lyric begins, explaining the rules in a clear and concise way. ((Edit 2023/12/28: Came back literally 90 years after the original post to ensure there's at least some conclusion to the events.)) They play their game, having the time of their lives with friendly competition, obviously hamming it up for the viewers. After the game concludes, they put everything away like good kids, trudge back to the cabin--having given their all in the game, being visibly exhausted--and part ways.
